Due to the heat and UV levels we experience living in tropical north Queensland, our main meal and play break is the first break of the day.
Before school
Children who arrive at school before 8.30 am can move to our breakfast club area where food is provided thanks to the generous donations of our community partners. Children are supervised in this area between 8.00 am and 8.30 am
At 8:30am all students move to our Hall and attend morning parade in their house groups. Morning parade is a chance for messages to be relayed and students to participate in house pride activities.
Teachers collect students from the hall and ensure they are in their classrooms and learning has commenced by 8:50am.
After school
Prep Gate: Prep, year 1 and 2 students be collected from the Prep gate by their parents or caregivers.
Main Gate: Students catching buses, or those in year 3-6, are asked to exit through the main gate. Parents may enter the seating area adjacent to the main gate to collect their child from 2:50pm.
Bike Gate: Students riding bikes or scooters and students in year 6 may exit through the bike gate, adjacent to the main staff carpark.
The last school bell for the day rings at 3.10 pm. For children who are still at school when the 3.10 pm bell rings. there is no formal supervision after this bell and parents are asked to make arrangements with after hours care organisers.
School assembly
A whole school assembly is held from 2:00pm each Tuesday afternoon. Our assembly is live streamed to all classrooms and those students receiving awards attend in personal. Parents and community members are able to view the live stream which is posted to our Facebook page prior to commencement.
At 2:05pm our parade program begins with Kooka News, our in-house news program. Kooka News is pre-recorded and presented by our students to include current events, insights into our learning, student and teacher information and other relevant news content.
At 2:20pm the assembly begins, led by our elected Student Leaders. There are a range of regular presentations at each assembly: Superstar Student of the Week, Role Model Recognition, Musical Merit and Specialist Class Awards are presented. News about important school events, attendance and a musical performances by the school band or strings ensemble are also part of our parade.
