Kelso competes in the Readers Cup

Readers cup competition
Questions are projected onto a screen and teams have 20 seconds to answer
4 of Kelso's senior students competed in the annual North Queensland Readers Cup on Thursday 13 June 2013. Our team; Miranda, Brittany, Yazmyn and Brad had to read 6 books which they were then quizzed on at the Readers Cup along with 38 other teams from schools around the Townsville district crammed into the Mary McKillop Performing Arts Centre at Ryan Catholic College. This year the quizmaster was  the author Barry Jonsberg, who also wrote one of the books studied,  My Life as an Alphabet. The contest was very tightly fought and we had to hold 3 tie breakers with the winners eventually being the Marian School winning both Primary and the Common competition and Kirwan State High winning the Secondary competition. Our school came in the middle with 30 points, but  we consider all four of our students are winners because they love reading!
