Hazel Edwards entertains our preps

Today our preps were excited to meet the author of one of the most loved series of books in our Library. Hazel Edwards has written 200 books, but the books our preps love her most for are her stories about a cake eating hippopotamus. Today Hazel read Hooray, There's a Hippopotamus On Our Roof Having a Birthday Party. The preps enjoyed the session, laughing and joining in with actions. The two Jacks and Summer helped Hazel tell the story acting the parts of some of the children at the party and Kein assisted Hazel in showing the students a Braille version of one of her books. Students and teachers had an opportunity to ask Hazel questions about writing afterwards.

Hazel also inspired some other Kelso kids! Some of our Year 5s were also lucky enough to meet Hazel when they came in just before morning tea to borrow books. She was setting up for the prep session, but stopped and chatted to them about her series of books about Australian heroes and the students were so keen to read them that Mrs Cataldo has bought copies to put in the Library. Another Kelso student who is an aspiring author also had a chance to talk with Hazel one on one after the session.

This opportunity was provided to Kelso students as part of the Townsville CityLibrary's Preps in the Library program. Special thanks goes to Shan Boller, Children's Librarian for organising this for us.
