Nine talented writers from Year 5 are currently at the Paluma Environmental Education Centre with students from Belgian Gardens, Vincent, Railway Estate and Queen’s Beach at a Fantasy Writer’s camp. The camp is funded as part of the Queensland Government’s Investing For Success initiative. The students are being tutored by well-known Australian children’s author, Leonie Norrington, and local artist, Colwyn Campbell who are collaborating with the students to create an illustrated story inspired by the beautiful rainforest in Paluma. The students have enjoyed walking through the rainforest (in the actual rain) identifying animals and plants that they are writing about and painting later in the warm dry classroom area.
